A Jesuit school community understands and develops a core Ignatian worldview that presupposes the goodness in all people and recognizes the Catholic principle that every person is charged with the Divine, created in the image and likeness of God.
Bellarmine Preparatory School fosters a commitment to embrace and celebrate the diversity of the school community. We have a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in accordance with the Jesuit tradition.

Bellarmine's Chain of Care

The formation of Bellarmine students requires a welcoming and safe environment, an experience that allows students to feel comfortable with who they are as children of Christ, learners in the classroom, and contributors to our campus. The Chain of Care, including the following key departments, provides support for the holistic inclusion, development and growth of our students, aligned with our Jesuit values:

  • Academic Center of Excellence

The Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) is a dynamic learning Center designed to facilitate and enhance student learning. This multifaceted space serves as an extension of the classroom and offers multiple pathways of scholarship and support to our students.
  • Campus Ministry

Rooted in our Catholic faith and animated by the vision of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Bellarmine’s Campus Ministry program invites every member of this community to “see God in all things.” One of the hallmarks of Jesuit education is “cura personalis” or the care of the whole person. Bellarmine’s commitment to caring for every person on our campus is lived through our Campus Ministry program.
  • Multicultural Center

Location:  Room 212 in the Campus Center

The Multicultural Center helps foster a commitment from the Bellarmine community to embrace and celebrate the diversity of the school's family and the broader community by providing opportunities to experience cultural differences. This is accomplished through activities such as the African American Summit, the Asian American/ Pacific Islander Summit, The Latinx Summit, PAASA (Parents of African American Students Association), International Night, Multicultural Week and round table discussions.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director Barbara Henderson speaks in classrooms about cultural differences to raise our students' awareness and help them find a reverence for each person. The hope is that our students will grow in their understanding of the heterogeneous and multicultural world which they are called to transform.

The Multicultural Center is part of our chain of care for Student Services which includes Counseling and the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE).

  • Sustainability at Bellarmine

At Bellarmine, we have implemented a comprehensive sustainability and nature program that revolves around experiential learning. By integrating environmental topics into our curriculum, we strive to instill a profound understanding and appreciation for nature among our students. Through hands-on experiences like outdoor gardening projects, wildlife observation, and greenhouse management, students are encouraged to connect with the natural world firsthand. Additionally, we foster active participation in eco-friendly initiatives, such as recycling campaigns, composting as well as water and energy-saving practices, to empower our students to become environmental advocates in their communities. This program not only equips our students with valuable knowledge but also cultivates a sense of responsibility towards our planet, ensuring a brighter, greener future while caring for our common home!

    AFFINITY GROUPS AND CLUBS

Guided by our commitment to promote the dignity of all students, Bellarmine expanded its offerings of affinity groups on campus. Affinity groups are student-run spaces that allow them to discuss their experiences among peers who share a common identity. Through these organizations that celebrate diversity, students develop self-awareness, build communities of support, and work to promote inclusion.
Today our prime educational objective must be to form men and women for others; men and women who will live not for themselves but for God and his Christ – for the God-human who lived and died for all the world; men and women who cannot even conceive of love of God which does not include love for the least of their neighbors; men and women completely convinced that love of God which does not issue in justice for others is a farce."

Studies show that regardless of socio-cultural backgrounds, all students exposed to diversity benefit educationally. They have better cognitive skills including critical thinking and problem solving. Interaction with diverse workforce helps us to become effective and empathic leaders.

Through educational awareness and professional development, Bellarmine provides students, faculty and staff the opportunity to honor and understand the diverse world in which we live.
