Bridget Nuno B'03

Bridget Nuno B’03 has been teaching since she joined the PLACE Corps in 2007 and has been at Bellarmine since 2018. Bridget has taught multiple classes in the Math and Science department in her four years at Bellarmine and is also very involved in Sustainability and advocating for more sustainable solutions at Bellarmine. I was born in Seattle and moved to Puyallup when I started Kindergarten at All Saints.  I did the full nine years at All Saints before starting at Bellarmine. At Bellarmine I was part of Marine Chemistry, led Encounters, and took the Community service class more than once.  I went to University of San Diego for my undergrad where I majored in biology and chemistry.  After graduating, I was accepted into the PLACE Corps- a graduate education program through LMU where you live in community while attending grad school and teaching in an under-resourced school in Los Angeles.  I enjoyed teaching so much and the area that I stayed in LA for 10 years.  I met my husband while teaching at the same school as him and we got married in 2012.  

We decided to move up to Washington in 2017 after finding out I was pregnant with my first little one and we wanted to have a house and be closer to family.  I taught for one year at Mt. Tahoma when we first moved up here and found out about an open position at Bellarmine that spring and decided to apply as I missed being part of a faith community.  I started teaching math and science at Bellarmine in the fall of 2018.

This is my fourth year at Bellarmine.  I've taught different classes every year, but since starting I've taught Algebra E, Advanced Algebra Trig, Advanced Algebra Trig Honors, Honors Biology, Chemistry and AP Environmental Science.  I'm not sure of my official title with sustainability, but I started the Sustainability Committee and moderate our student sustainability group.  I also moderate the crochet club and the Nintendo club.  I really enjoy going on Encounter every year.  

As a child of an educator, growing up I always said that I never would be a teacher because it was too much work.  I started college with the intention of being a research scientist, but throughout college I was volunteering with educational programs and in classrooms.  As graduation from USD approached, I realized I really loved working with kids and decided to apply to various grad school programs in education.  I was accepted into PLACE Corps through LMU and my experience teaching in East LA for the next two years really solidified my love for teaching.

What has been your favorite or most rewarding experience as a teacher so far?

In 2019, I got to travel with a group of students from Bellarmine to the Ignatian Family Teach-In in Washington DC.  This was an awesome experience getting to hear from amazing social justice speakers as well as seeing my students lobby with our state senators for environmental justice.
