Welcome to Academics at Bellarmine

At Bellarmine, we do a lot of things very well. What I am most proud of, though, is the way we form young people to go out into the world, discover who they are called to be, and strive to build a better world.

Students receive an excellent academic education at Bellarmine and have the opportunity to participate in a wide array of exciting athletic and co-curricular activities. For nearly a century, though, it has been our Jesuit character that makes us distinct. Through our campus ministry offerings and theology and formation classes, Bellarmine students learn about the roots of our Jesuit identity and, during their time at Bellarmine become, more and more, people of competence, compassion, and conscience.

As an alum and a parent, myself, I am very proud of Bellarmine and the experience and opportunities that students have here. In the classroom, on the stage, doing service in our community, during retreats, or on the athletic field, Bellarmine students strive for excellence. When students graduate from Bellarmine, they go out prepared for what comes next and ready to more fully explore and grow into the person that God is calling them to be.

Earning College Credit at Bellarmine

Bellarmine offers opportunities for students to earn both high school and college credit (Dual Credit) on our campus by taking courses through Central Washington University’s Cornerstone Program and Eastern Washington University’s College in the High School Program. Students earn 5 quarter credits per course. Students can also earn college credit through our Advanced Placement program and by completing College Board standardized exams at the completion of the course. All college-earning courses are taught by Bellarmine faculty who work in partnership and are certified by Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, or the College Board. We currently offer 33 Dual Credit and Advanced Placement courses.

Academic Center of Excellence

The Academic Center of Excellence (ACE) is a dynamic center designed to facilitate and enhance student learning. This multifaceted space serves as an extension of the classroom and offers multiple pathways for student scholarship and support.

Academic Center of Excellence

Registration is live for Academic Readiness. Incoming 9th graders are invited to gain early exposure to Bellarmine's college preparatory curriculum and community. Classes meet on campus August 12th - 22nd, Monday-Thursday, unless otherwise noted. Current students are also invited to enroll in courses designed for writing and algebra enhancement, and for college application preparation.

Academic Programs

Marine Chemistry
Marine Chemistry is four-year extracurricular, scientific research program dedicated to the protection and preservation of the environment. Through scientific research, students seek solutions to problems in an effort to make the world a better place for all its inhabitants.
Capstone
Capstone projects are a unique opportunity for students to conduct independent, in-depth research on a topic they are passionate about. It is a three-year research program outside of the standard school day, and includes a written and public presentation. Each Capstone student is guided by a project mentor of their selection. This is likely to be the most challenging and rewarding academic project undertaken by Bellarmine students.
Journalism
The Lion Journalism program provides an exciting opportunity for students to experience broadcast, online and print journalism. The Lion newspaper has earned Gold Medalist status five years in a row from Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The program is open to 15 juniors and seniors who develop the writing, editing, digital photography and computer layout of each publication and video production.
Yearbook
Bellarmine’s yearbook, “The Cage,” is a student publication that uses photography and story-telling to capture special moments throughout the school year. Participating in yearbook will allow students to work on their proofreading and editing abilities while also building up a strong design background through learning page layouts, interviewing techniques, marketing strategies, social media advertising, and coordinating release events.
Leadership
Bellarmine is committed to providing leadership opportunities to all students, regardless of the skills they may have as a leader. It is the school’s philosophy that everyone can be a leader. The leadership program is grounded in the Ignatian principles of the school, with the goal of creating servant leaders, who think of others before self.
Computer Science
We offer several exciting computer science electives, in partnership with industry professionals, to challenge students interested in studying computer science, graphic design or engineering in college and beyond. Our courses were designed in collaboration with Microsoft through their Technology Education and Literacy in School (TEALS) program. For students interested in AP courses, we offer AP Computer Science; an in-depth course on theory and practice
