Alumni Spotlight: Colleen Durkin Peterson B’03

Congratulations to Colleen Durkin Peterson B’03, who was named the Tom Chambers Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ)!
A partner at Friedman Rubin Trial Lawyers, Colleen has built a remarkable career advocating for others. She received WSAJ’s New Lawyer “Ready to Soar” Award in 2016 and later served as the organization’s president.

After graduating from Bellarmine, Colleen continued her Jesuit education at Loyola University Chicago and Gonzaga University School of Law, bringing the values of her formation into her legal career.

Colleen reflected in her award acceptance speech on one of the principles that guides her work, “At Bellarmine Prep, Loyola Chicago and Gonzaga Law, the Jesuits taught me a phrase I’ve carried into every case: cura personalis, care for the whole person.”

For Colleen, that means seeing her clients “as more than a file” and approaching her work with compassion and a deep commitment to justice. As she shared, “how we do this work matters just as much as the result.”

Colleen’s accomplishments reflect the values at the heart of a Bellarmine and Jesuit education, inspiring her to use her gifts in service of others. We are proud to celebrate Colleen and the many ways she continues to make a difference.
